Greenated Clima Tech has taken another significant step towards advancing climate-smart agriculture with the expansion of its Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) initiative into Andhra Pradesh. As part of the preliminary assessment for the proposed project, the Greenated team conducted field visits across three villages in different mandals of Markapuram district to evaluate the region’s suitability for implementing AWD in paddy cultivation.

The assessment was led by Mr. Sarath Chandra Prasad, Head – Climate Solutions, with technical support from Mr. Manohar Naik, Senior Associate – Carbon Credit Projects, along with Greenated’s ground partner coordinators. During the visit, the team engaged directly with farmers, assessed baseline field conditions, and studied existing rice cultivation practices to better understand local agricultural systems and implementation requirements.

The assessment highlighted several challenges faced by paddy farmers in the region, including irregular rainfall, declining groundwater levels, and increasing irrigation costs. These factors reinforce the need for water-efficient cultivation practices such as Alternate Wetting and Drying, which helps optimize water use while supporting sustainable rice production and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Farmer interaction sessions were also organized with the support of local community leaders, providing an opportunity to introduce the AWD methodology and discuss its environmental and economic benefits. The sessions encouraged meaningful dialogue, allowing farmers to share their experiences, address concerns, and gain a better understanding of the project’s objectives.

The initiative received an encouraging response from the farming community, with many farmers expressing interest in adopting AWD practices. The findings from this preliminary assessment will support the development of a locally tailored implementation strategy as Greenated progresses towards expanding the project across suitable regions of Andhra Pradesh.

Through initiatives like these, Greenated Clima Tech continues to promote sustainable agricultural practices that strengthen climate resilience, improve resource efficiency, and create long-term value for farming communities while contributing to global climate action.
